12 Jul Gone Phishing. Click to keep reading…
Ransomware attacks are still a threat, and consumers have to be even more diligent when it comes to phishing schemes, as fraudsters are using phishing for more focused attacks. Using both email and text messages, criminals pose as legitimate institutions to garner personal information or money. “Spear-phishing” is a targeted attack, often leveraging data that the fraudster has obtained from social media, which makes the counterfeit note seem more authentic. As a victim, be sure to change your password for any accounts that may have been compromised, and for any accounts where you have used the same password. If you have given away your bank account or credit card numbers, notify the issuing bank immediately.
Pro tip – be sure to talk about cybersecurity with every generation in your family. Older adults are often targeted by criminals, and can easily be victimized by attacks that look like they are coming from trusted family members.
