The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) surveyed its members and reports that most U.S. manufacturers see clear skies in 2021. 87.6% of respondents reported that they are at least somewhat positive about their company’s outlook in the first quarter of 2021. NAM CEO, Jay Timmons, suggests that the pace of vaccination and signs of an improving economy is sparking optimism amongst NAM members. “Our industry is creating new jobs and investing in new projects, buoyed by signs that we may finally be getting COVID-19 under control.”
Almost 50% of the respondents are planning on increased production and experienced a return to normal revenue levels. Respondents are concerned about the increase in material costs, as well as attracting and keeping qualified employees. Also challenging are rising health care, logistics and transportation costs.
